Arts On Prescription
Arts On Prescription was a course devised to teach the basics of observational drawing and give people the tools to set out to develop their skills as visual artists. As well as artistic development, participants benefit from ongoing mental health support from qualified staff and signposting to other opportunities. Importantly, they also meet other people in a similar situation. Some of the groups went on to set up their own arts projects independently - such as the brilliant "Artistic Moves"
People who have mental health needs are referred by their GP, or could self refer to this inovtive project run by Stockport NHS mental health service, which has run for over 20 years.
Alison Kershaw and fellow artist Charlotte Brown developed the project together until 2015 with the mental health, arts and health and public health teams in Stockport.
